Windows 11 is like a breath of fresh air for your PC. It brings everything you love closer and lets you see the world with new eyes. Windows 11 is so simple and intuitive to use, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it. There are more apps, more fun, and more ways to express your creative and productive side.

Here you'll find all the useful information for your switch to Windows 11. We'll show you how to set everything up and get started. This article covers compatibility, pros and cons, and new features. This is how easy it is to install Windows 11.

Windows 11 Compatibility and Requirements

Windows 11 needs a powerful PC. If your PC is too weak, you should not install Windows 11. If you don't know if your PC is powerful enough, ask the manufacturer or a trusted retailer. Most devices that can handle Windows 10 can also handle Windows 11.

Here is a brief description of the requirements your PC should meet for upgrading to Windows 11.

Processor

1 Gigahertz (GHz) or faster with 2 or more cores

RAM

4 Gigabytes.

Storage

64 GB or larger storage device.

Graphics card

Compatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver.

Display

High-resolution display (720p) with a diagonal of more than 9 inches and 8 bits per color channel.

The easiest way to check is with Microsoft's PC Health Check Tool.

On Windows 10 systems, the tool is usually pre-installed and can be found under programs. At IT-Versand.com, we have many refurbished PCs and laptops that already have the latest Windows 11 version installed. We make sure our computers are always up to date and give you at least a 1-year warranty on used devices. This way, you can save time and money and also do something good for the environment!

Installing Windows 11

Option 1:

Wait until you are notified via Windows Update that the upgrade is ready for your PC. This is the recommended method to switch from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Follow the update assistant and let the magic happen.

Option 2:

If you don't want to wait or have a new PC, you can use the Installation Assistant to download and install Windows 11. You'll need a Windows 10 license and 9 GB of free disk space. Click here to go to Microsoft.

Option 3:

If you want to perform a clean installation of Windows 11, you can download an ISO file of Windows 11 and copy it to a USB stick. Then you can boot your PC from the USB stick and install Windows 11. You'll need a valid product license for this.

TIP:

Before installation, fully set up your Microsoft account to transfer most of your Microsoft data. With a Microsoft account, you can link your device to various Microsoft apps and services, such as Microsoft 365, OneDrive, Edge, and the Microsoft Store. When you sign in to your new Windows 11 device with a Microsoft account, you can easily take your files and data with you.

If you don't have a Microsoft account yet, you can create one quickly using this Microsoft link.

File backup/Backup

During installation, all files you previously had on your PC are also transferred by default. However, for safety reasons, it is recommended to create a backup of your data beforehand. We will describe how to create data backups best and most securely in a separate post and link it as soon as possible.

Pros and Cons of Windows 11

Advantages:

  • Windows 11 looks stylish, with rounded corners, new icons, a centered Start menu, and a translucent taskbar. This makes Windows 11 an eye-catcher on your screen.
  • Windows 11 can run Android apps, which you can download from the Amazon Appstore and launch on your PC. This gives you more app choices to play on your PC.
  • Windows 11 has new multitasking features, like Snap Layouts and Snap Groups, that help you organize and save your windows. You can also create and customize multiple virtual desktops.
  • Windows 11 has better integration with Microsoft Teams, which you can access directly from the taskbar. This makes it easier to chat, call, or video call with your friends.
  • Windows 11 has improved performance and security, making your PC faster and more stable. For example, Windows 11 starts faster, uses less memory, and has built-in antivirus protection.

Disadvantages:

  • Windows 11 has higher requirements than Windows 10, which not all PCs can meet. For example, you need a processor with at least two cores and a speed of 1 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 64 GB of storage space, and a TPM 2.0 module.
  • Windows 11 is not yet fully complete and still has some quirks and issues. For example, you can't use Android apps yet, and some features are not yet finished or translated.
  • Windows 11 has removed or changed some features that you might have liked in Windows 10. For example, you can no longer place the taskbar on the sides or top, you can no longer have live tiles in the Start menu, and you can no longer use Internet Explorer.

Windows 11 is therefore a new Windows environment that aims to offer you more fun and a better experience. But you should also consider the downsides before deciding to upgrade.

Do I need antivirus software for Windows 11?

Windows 11 has Microsoft Defender as its antivirus software. It fends off malware and other attacks. It also has parental controls and a device health check. However, Microsoft Defender is not perfect. It can make mistakes or miss threats. It also has fewer features than other antivirus programs. So you don't need antivirus software for Windows 11, but you can have one if you want more protection and features.

Is Windows 11 free?

You need a compatible PC and a Windows 10 license to get Windows 11 for free. If not, you'll need to buy a license or find a new PC with Windows 11. So Windows 11 isn't entirely free, but you can get it for free if you already have Windows 10 and your PC meets the requirements.

What happens if I don't install Windows 11?

Upgrading to Windows 11 offers many advantages, such as a new design and better performance. If you don't upgrade, you can continue to use Windows 10 until 2025 and still receive updates. After that, support for Windows 10 will end. However, you can switch to Windows 11 at any time if your device is compatible and Windows Update offers it to you.
